RISK ASSESSMENT QUESTION FROM MARSH

I am always covered for legal services, even when I’m talking to my neighbor across the back yard fence. True or False? FALSE. Contrary to what many think, you are not automatically covered. Most insurance contracts do provide coverage for all legal services. However, there is a clause in some contracts that can radically alter this coverage. Generally the clause is found in the definition of “Named Insured” and contains wording such as “only while acting on behalf of the Named Insured”. This restricts coverage to only those legal services performed on behalf of the firm.
For more information on Lawyers' Professional Liability Insurance or other risk management questions, please contact Bryan Brown or Mary Whisenand at 1-866-236-6582 or on-line at www.nebarinsurance.com.
