E-FILING
The E-filing subcommittee of the Supreme Court Technology Committee
is pursuing a pilot project in Lancaster County District Court,
as well as the County Courts in Hall and Sarpy Counties. E-filing
will begin January 2007 in Lincoln and move to Papillion and
Grand Island as installation schedules permit.
Please feel free
to update the lawyers in your area about the project. The subcommittee
is also researching the use of credit cards for payment of traffic
citations.

GUARDIAN AD LITEM TRAINING REQUIREMENT DEADLINE EXTENDED
The Nebraska Supreme
Court has extended the deadline for completion of training
for guardians ad litem for children in the abuse/neglect system
from April, 2007 to January 1, 2008.
Information about training schedules and registration will be
provided as soon as it is available.

LEGAL AID SOCIETY OF NEBRASKA RECEIVES GRANT FROM
NEBRASKA STATE COURT ADMINISTRATOR
A one year grant for
$300,000 was awarded to the Legal Aid Society, Inc. of Nebraska
by the Nebraska State Court Administrator on December 22, 2006.
This grant is funded under the Civil Legal Services Fund created
by the 2006 Nebraska Legislature pursuant to LB746. The purpose
of the Fund is to expand the capacity to provide civil legal services
to eligible low-income persons equally throughout the state.
Eligible applicants included civil legal services providers,
which are Nebraska non-profit organizations that employ or
contract with Nebraska attorneys, have offices located throughout
the state, have as its principal purpose the delivery of civil
legal services to low-income persons, and which are a recipient
of funds from the federal Legal Services Corporation.
