Nebraska’s 2nd Annual Legal Diversity Summit has been scheduled for October 6, 2006 from 1:00 to 7:00 p.m. at the Doubletree Hotel (1616 Dodge Street) in Omaha. This important event will include:

A book signing event by Charles Ogletree, author of All Deliberate Speed: Reflections on the First Half Century of Brown v. Board of Education and From Lynch Mobs to the Killing State: Race and the Death Penalty in America.

A keynote address by Professor Charles Ogletree, Harvard Law School, Founding and Executive Director of the Charles Hamilton Houston Institute for Race and Justice, and named one of the 100+ Most Influential Black Americans by Ebony Magazine.

A panel discussion on the Hiring and Retention of Attorneys of Color.

LINCOLN BAR ASSOCIATION FIELD DAY GOLF TOURNAMENT

The LBA golf tournament isMonday, October 9, 2006 at Crooked Creek golf couse at 134th Street & East “O” Street in Lincoln

It is a 1:00 p.m. shotgun start and you can make your own foursome or they will put you with a group. It is a four person scramble and the fee is $50 per person which includes green fees, cart, prizes and dinner.

DOUGLAS COUNTY JUROR APPRECIATION WEEK

On October 16th at 12:00 p.m. in the Juror Assembly Room of the Hall of Justice, Omaha Mayor Mike Fahey and Douglas County Commissioner Kyle Hutchings will be signing a joint proclamation declaring October 16th through October 20th, Juror Appreciation Week in Douglas County. The proclamation signing is part of a statewide campaign being undertaken to thank jurors for their contribution to the justice system and to promote the representation of people from every ethnicity, race, religion and economic background on our juries. The above rules have been amended by the Supreme Court to reflect changes proposed by the Judicial Branch Education Committee.

The Supreme Court passed an Interim Rule for Electronic Filing and Service System for an e-filing Pilot Project. It includes filing and service of pleadings, motions, and other papers (Documents) via the Internet through the court-authorized service provider
