SUPREME COURT LAW LIBRARY PROVIDES WIRELESS CONNECTION FOR
PATRONS AND PUBLIC
Internet users visiting the State Capitol are now able
to get on-line without the need for cable, thanks to an ambitious
Supreme Court project in the State Law Library. The Law Library
is the first public space within the Capitol to host a ‘hot
spot’ for wireless internet access.
“Providing wireless
access is a service that we in the Library are eager to offer,”
said Marie Wiechman, Director of the State Law Library. “We
are also excited about welcoming new users into our area of
the Capitol – our location couldn’t be more perfect for those
visiting the Legislature during the upcoming session.”
Permanently located
on the third floor of the State Capitol, the Nebraska State
Law Library is primarily a reference research library managed
by the Nebraska Supreme Court. Individuals wanting to use
the free wireless connection can request passwords through
the librarians at the front check-in desk.
Individuals without
laptop computers or other portable devices are also able to
use the internet as the result of an earlier Supreme Court
project.
Two months ago, the Court installed a computer in the Library
which created the only publicly accessible connection to the
Internet from inside the State Capitol. The public computer
station contains word processing (Microsoft Word), Nebraska
Westlaw legal research with Keycite, a list of the Librarian’s
favorite sites for research, and an open portal to the Internet.
Patrons can print information at a minimal cost, use web based
e-mail to send information to another location for printing,
or copy information directly to a jump/flash drive.
According to the
Court, the installation of a wireless ‘hot spot’ is a logical
expansion of the library’s services and another important
way for the Court to continue to fulfill its mission to preserve
and promote access to a broad range of legal information and
ideas.

Giovana Carnet,

Justice John M.
Gerrard of the Nebraska Supreme Court will preside over the
ceremony and will speak of the need for providing equal access
to the courts for all participants. Judges, probation officers,

ceremony.
“It is crucial
to the overall fairness of the system that judicial proceedings
are completely and accurately interpreted for non-English
speaking participants. The Nebraska Supreme Court is pleased
with these interpreters who have worked so hard to become
certified and for all of the other interpreters who are working
toward certification,” said Gerrard.
These three individuals
join fourteen other previously certified Nebraska court interpreters
who have successfully passed the oral certification exam,
which is sponsored by the Consortium of the National Center
for the State Courts.
Nebraska is one
of thirty-two states who have joined the Consortium whose
sole purpose to create court interpreter certification exams
and administer those exams in order to provide for professional

NEBRASKA CHILD SUPPORT PAYMENT CENTER
TO: Clerks of the
District Courts
County/Authorized Attorneys
Child Support Enforcement Staff
FROM: Daryl D. Wusk, Administrator
Office of Economic and Family Support
RE: Post Office
Box Consolidation
We received several
inquiries from my memo dated December 20, 2005 on Returned
Checks, regarding the singular P.O. box. When the Payment
Center opened five years ago we established nine P.O. boxes
in an effort to better identify payments when the Payors’
information was not available. Now, with better reporting
and information listed on payments, the multiple P.O. Boxes
are no longer needed.
The Nebraska Child
Support Payment Center will continue to accept payments and
mail from all P.O. boxes until May 29, 2006. The January Billing
Statement reflects the new P.O. box change and future statements
will include a global message. Customer Service Staff continue
to educate and inform callers of the P.O. box change. After
that date, payments will be returned to the sender unless
the appropriate P.O. box is used.
Employers and Clerks
should send payments to:
Nebraska Child
Support Payment Center (NCSPC)
P.O. Box 82890
Lincoln NE 68501-2890
There is one exception
to the use of the above P.O. box, and this is when an employer
is using the form of payment called Check and Web. This is
when an employer fills in the employees’ information online
and submits a check to the Payment Center. A separate P.O.
box is used for this form of payment and will only be assigned
when an employer has signed up for this type of payment through
the Nebraska Child Support Payment Center.
Individuals should
send payments to:
Nebraska Child
Support Payment Center (NCSPC)
P.O. Box 82600
Lincoln NE 68501-2600
If you have any
questions, please contact the Nebraska Child Support Payment
Center at 877-631-9973 Option 3 or Lisa Maddock at (402) 471-1400.
